Another great spring function in Bodrum debuted last month with the Bodrum Herb Festival. With the intention of focusing on local greens, traditional recipes and protecting indigineous seeds and plants, the festival took place in Yalikciftlik over the course of two days. Highlights included a local market, home-made herb pastries and cakes, and a chef's cook-off. What many of us consıder weeds are actually a staple part of the local diet, including wild asparagus, thistle roots, dock, stinging nettles, mustard greens, and chickweed. These vegetables and herbs are frequently a highlight of our Blue Cruise organic menu, with clients asking what the tasty greens are. Blogger Annie Onursan, one of the very first persons to market gulet charters in Turkey in the mid 80s, wrote about the festival on her blog.
