Crew Profile - Captain Mandingo

Captain Uğur began his first season with us this year and heads the crew of our 18 meter gulet, Southern Cross Timer. 


Nicknamed Mandingo as a child, Uğur Captain grew up in Bodrum accompanying his father who worked as a chef on local gulets.  His family settled in Bodrum via Kos and Rhodes during the population exchange between Greece and Turkey, and he grew up in a household speaking Cretan. 

An extremely gentle and approachable captain, Mandingo speaks good English and has kept Southern Cross Timer in immaculate condition, and our clients have praised him with each charter.

His hobbies include handicrafts, model-making, jewelry design and leather sandal creations, as well as being a father to two daughters.
